Obsessed with Guns

Does anyone else have a little boy that makes gun noises way too much? The kids are not supposed to play with guns, even pretend guns, at school, but somehow Maxwell knows what each of his friends' pretend "hand"guns look like. His is a long one, like a machine gun. In primary the substitute teacher had he and his two little buddies put their guns away during class, but as soon as church was over they paraded down the halls shooting everyone, again with their pretend "hand"guns. Amy, (his full-time primary teacher) don't let him get that gun out during class. I'll come in for a visit if he does! He turns the hairspray bottle and comb into a gun each morning as I do his hair. His fork is often a gun at mealtime. He has begun to love drawing, and draws several really detailed pictures each day. Each picture is some sort of battle, whether it is with pirates, star wars characters or soldiers. Occasionally he will draw something with flowers on it for me! He got a little spiritual on me yesterday and drew the Book of Mormon...but then went on to draw a bunch of men with machine guns guarding it! He rarely gets to watch television and play video games, so I think this is just something innate. Luckily he is the most loveable and cuddly little boy who will still play teacher and picnic with Sophie, so I think that this too shall pass!

Remedy for the Weather Blues

Here is a TEMPORARY remedy for the weather blues:

1. Set up an indoor picnic in front of the television.

2. Watch the Sound of Music and sing the songs really loud with your children.

3. Don't watch the entire movie in one sitting because it is really long, so repeat steps 1 and 2 the following day.

Old Navy finds

I haven't been to Old Navy in quite a long time, because frankly, I pretty much thought it had gone down hill to the point of totally sucking. But I was driving by today, and in need of a baby gift for my sister Lexi, so I thought I would give it another try for old times sake. Can I just tell you that their selection totally rocks right now. I cannot show you what I got because Lexi and Quinn will see, and then there goes the element of surprise, but just know that I have decent child fashion sense and trust me on this one! Lexi, you'll be getting it in the mail. I just couldn't wait another day! I didn't get a chance to look at the adult clothing, but just walking by it without browsing was really hard. Those special magnets they have in the center of the clothing racks were trying really hard to pull me in, but I was strong...only because I was going to make Maxwell late for school once again! Speaking of Max, I also had to buy a shirt with green on it at Old Navy, because I forgot to remind him to wear green on St. Patrick's Day, and he was petrified of being pinched. He didn't even want to go into Old Navy without any green on. I told him that only his friends will pinch him, and it won't hurt because it is just a silly fun thing. He said, "we better hurry and get something green because everyone at school is my friend so I will get pinched a lot." I guess he takes after me in at least one area...popularity!! (In case you hadn't assumed, I am so totally kidding!)

Kid 'N Play

Here is the Kid 'N Play hair I was referring to that rivals Allyson's! This is for all of you under the age of 30 or Yo MTV Raps haters! I have had a few requests to post a big hair picture of myself, but sadly I never had enough style to have big hair. I was not on most of those trend and style bandwagons. I was actually quite lame in the fashion department. I'll try to track down a permed/frizzy hair picture.

Allyson's Apron!

I hope it isn't lame to send a thank you card via blog, it's just that I want everyone to see this work of art by my friend Allyson. She handcrafted this fabulous apron as a birthday gift for me, and she has made her fair share of aprons for other people as well. Notice the flare at the bottom, and the pockets, and the ribbon. She spared no detail. I am so excited to wear it. I threw it on for this picture right before heading to the gym, and if felt oh so right! And yes, I am trying to be sexy in this picture...I know, I'm not good at trying to be sexy! Allyson is probably my most talented friend in the seamstress department. I have tried to be like her several times, but each time I discover that I just really hate to sew, so that sewing machine I bought on e-bay just sits in the closet. Allison is one my most talented friends in the thoughtfulness department as well. She is one of those rare people (like my husband) who is almost always thinking of others rather than themselves. You're probably wondering how then can we be friends...opposites attract! She is also gorgeous and has four blonde daughters who have inherited her skinny, beautiful genes. What a lucky lot in life! She is also freaking hilarious. I better not fail to mention that she has wicked awesome hair!

Oh wait...that was from the mid 90's, this is her updated self portrait that I stole from her blog! I think those bangs rival the height of kid-n-play's hair. If you are younger than 30 you may not know who kid-n-play is. Also, you may not know who they are unless you watched Yo MTV Raps, like I did through high school!

Idaho Girl's Night...It's Huge!

I must first say that my husband is such a sweetie. I just got back from five days with my Arizona friends. (Sidenote: Max's fantabulous primary teacher, Amy Blake, told me that when she asked him why I wasn't at church on Sunday he said, "she's with her Arizona friends". Then she asked him where my Arizona friends and I went and he said, "I don't know...maybe Arizona".) Upon my return I checked a handful of blogs, one of which was Jenni Terry's (you should feel special Jenni!), and she had posted a Girl's Night out in honor of lots of birthdays and Rachel Budge, who is moving this tuesday. Sweet little Steve told me to definitely go do some bonding...okay he didn't put it like that, but that is how I interpreted it! Word of the get together spread like wildfire, which was so much fun, because I got to meet three new girls and hang with all the really cool oldtimers. We did a little shopping at the mall, and indulged at Cheesecake Factory. Thanks to my table neighbors, Amy, Wendy, Jenni and Cara, for sharing, because that is one my favorite things ever...I learned it in kindergarten! There are so many people that you mostly just see a bunch of heads, but if you click on it for a close-up you will see a table full of hotties!

Celebrating President's Day with the Animals!

Seeing as President's Day is such an important holiday - important enough to close schools, banks and the stock market, I decided we better celebrate. I called my Mom's house to see what was on her agenda for the day, and whose sweet little voice did I hear...my little sister, Cassi. She had really been wanting to go to the zoo with as many of her neices and nephews as were interested. I guess Maxwell and Sophie are the only two animal lovers in the family! Cassi brought along her adorable friend, Kyle, and we had a great little two hour stint at the charming Boise Zoo. By the way, Cassi is not yawning in the picture above, she is trying to act like she has just seen a really fascinating animal, like a llama or tortoise! Great times! We love you Aunt Cassi.
