What I've learned this summer

I've learned that when a 3 year old, really smart and independent little girl is not yet potty-trained, forcing the issue doesn't work. I also learned that when that really smart and independent 3 year old decides she's ready to go on the big girl potty two weeks after Mom's miserable failure, she can go all by herself without ANY help (including wiping and accompanying her in public restroom stalls). Yea for smart and independent 3 year olds!

I have also learned that when your 6 year old breaks his arm playing Indiana Jones on Grandma Smith's rope swing, it is not necessary to rush him to the ER at 10 pm because the orthopedic surgeon on call will not want to come in at that hour so the ER doctor will try to reset it but will completely fail, and then the orthopedic surgeon will have to reset it the next day at a surgery center resulting in two hospital bills. Next time we are using Dr. Steve Payne's prescribing ability to drug our kid for the night and will then take him to the specialist in the morning.

I have also learned that camping is more fun than I remember. Especially when the kids have their favorite playmates (their cousins) as camping partners. Having playmates for the kids allows the parents to actually relax occasionally. I also re-learned that I should bring sleeping pills with me when I go camping because even though I'm a really brave and strong woman (!!) any sound outside the tent is a big hungry bear!

Lyric, you're family is so cute! Yeah for Sophie! What a great accomplishment! So sorry for Max's broken arm-hope he's ok.
As for what you've learned-I agree. Stay away from the emergency room whenever possible.
Thanks for the fun time we had at your house. We loved it! Aunt Debbie

What I have learned this summer: Lyric Payne is a really lazy blogger. However, those pics are so cute. When did your kids get so big?? Do we know the gender of #3 yet?

Hey Lyric! How are you guys? I love the camping adventures! Of course any sound outside the tent is a bear, or some other creature! We've gone twice this summer and the coyotes were howling so close to us! I'm such a wimp. That stinks about Max's arm! So we started a blog...

Congrats on the potty training...I HATE potty training. That Sophie sounds like one sharp cookie! I hope Max is Ok, I bet he thinks having a cast is pretty cool.

I love what you learned about camping, I am with you on the sleeping pills. I just know a bear is casing our tent every time we go!

Hope you are feeling well, and hanging in there. Congrats on the mini can too, they are great aren't they?

Love the camping pictures. --I'm also really jeleous you don't have to do the "two in diapers" thing. Think there's any chance Easton could be potty trained before age 2? ha! Poor Max's arm... but it seems that losing teeth has provided a good distraction. Yesterday people wanted to ask him about him arm, but he just wanted to show off his missing teeth!

Love your stories! That's awesome about the potty-training thing. I'm so NOT good at that! Jonathan decided one day that Jace shouldn't be wearing diapers anymore and potty-trained him over one weekend, since his slacker mom was aparently OK with changing diapers for as long as necessary. Did you ever take that trip to Utah amd not call us???

Oh man, sounds like lessons learned the hard way! It sounds like Sophie wanted to show mom who's boss! I'm happy to hear she's potty trained now! Hope Max is doin alright... poor guy! Love the update and pics! Hope you feeling good!!

Hey, nice to get an update! ;) I have been a blogger slacker myself so I shouldn't poke too much fun! Looks like you guys had fun camping, my WORST part of camping is sleeping too, it is just uncomfortable and I always have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night! I agree with having friends for the little ones, they have so much fun getting grubby and exploring and the parents can hang out! :)
