Sophie's on the Right Track

Last night the girls and I watched The Princess and the Frog, which, minus all the voodoo magic stuff, is one of my favorite Disney princess movies. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite because I love that Belle falls in love with someone who isn't the handsome prince, and she doesn't fall in love just because of a kiss! My kids think Belle is my favorite princess because of her yellow ball gown, because they know yellow is my favorite color! Every time I read Snow White to the girls it takes all the willpower in me not to lecture them about reality after the handsome prince kisses the sleeping/dead Snow White and then they live happily ever after! Anyway...back to my point...remember, Princess and the Frog! Tiana, the main character, has a friend/employer, a blonde southern belle who desperately wants to marry a prince so she can become a princess. I said to Sophie, "You shouldn't just love someone because they are a prince or because they are very handsome. You should love someone for other reasons too...because they are kind and hard working and smart." She interrupted me and said, "I should find someone like Daddy right?" Exactly Sophie...exactly! I'm just hoping she still says this when she 16 not 6! I should probably just let her watch the movie and enjoy the innocence of a 6 year old's reality!

But you should also say, "he doesn't have to be as handsome as your dad. Not all girls can hit a home run and eat their cake and get the bag of chips like I did, Sophie."

I‘m lucky enough to have twin (2 y.o.) daughters. They actually split on those two movies. Grace loves Beauty and the Beast, and Rachel adores Princess and the Frog.

The odd structure of my family means we‘ve actually driven around the Louisiana swamps witg Princess and the Frog playing on the cars DVD player. I can tell you it makes for a pretty surreal drive!
